Traveling with friends in Africa

Warthog

Just back from an amazing three weeks in Africa, wild camping in the bush in Botswana and climbing red dunes in Namibia. The whole experience was so extraordinary: sleeping with the sounds of elephants and hippos instead of Venice street traffic and waking up before dawn without complaint because the day was sure to reveal another animal I’d never seen before. It was my first trip to Africa but will absolutely not be my last.

The journey was purely for pleasure: a long safari and then time hiking and playing in Capetown. Early in the trip, river rafting down the Zambezi, I met a broadcast journalist and documentary producer who had come from Uganda where he looked at the impact of a hydroelectric project on local villagers. Since I accomplished absolutely nothing in Africa but making myself happy, let me at least link you to one of the videos his company produced on the work UNIDO, the U.N.’s industrial development group, is doing in Africa. It’s a lot more impressive than my warthog photos (though those guys are pretty cute). LINK to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoDqd8PGCFA
